Historical Saint Louis Area Computer Retailers and Internet Service Provider Companies

NOTICE: This List is from the 1990's so most of these companies no longer exist, but I am keeping it alive to remember the good old days!
In reality the primary computer store I visit anymore is my favorite retailer in the St. Louis area, Micro Center,
located in the worst parking lot in the metro area. I always enter from the south entrance by Dobbs and Total Wines.

(This used to be called the Clone Provider list, but who calls them clones any more?) Here are some of the smaller system retailers originally listed in the old St. Louis Computer User and The Midwest Technology Journal (formerly St. Louis PC Journal), both now defunct. I am leaving out the "big box" retailers like Best Buy, OfficeMax and even the Wal-Mart's and Target's who now sell computer hardware dirt cheap and have driven many of these smaller shops out of business. I believe many of these places are probably out of business too. Please e-mail me if you know of any updates. I personally only frequent a few of them.

Here is my ancient list of former St. Louis based Internet access services:

Now all we have in St, Louis is the duopoly of Spectrum and AT&T. There are some smaller players available like Earthlink (uses AT&T hardware but bills customers directly with their own plans) or Verizon Home Internet. Most of these listed here must be out of business by now, but you never know...

These are now listed alphabetically so we don't look biased. I also removed all the prices since they were very, very old...

These Larger Internet Access Services offer local access in St. Louis:

This list keeps shrinking as everyone merges, gets bought out or just closes down. Soon it will be AT&T and Spectrum (Charter) and the cellular services
AT&T Internet Services The monopolistic takeover continues...
Spectrum Spectrum? Charter? Whatever! They're the local cable monopoly!
T-Mobile Home Internet Connect to 5G Data for your access! Inexpensive and easy setup.
Verizon Home Internet If T-Mobile can do it, so can Verizon
And the oldies....
CompuServe An oldie still trying to hang around
EarthLink Network One of the biggest and oldest independent providers
Juno / NetZero Same Company now CHEAP ISP!
MacConnect Apple Believers get access too
People PC Online A little, friendlier place in a sea of sharks
